Extraordinary claims have been made during a hearing in the US Congress – but Cambridgeshire has had its share of unexplained sightings

With recent the latest claims in America that the government has a UFO program, extra-terrestrial sightings across the world have come into the spotlight. Cambridgeshire has had several alleged UFO sightings over the years, with even a hotspot area in the region.

On Wednesday, July 26, a hearing in the US Congress heard claims about UFOs in the country. Similar to the lights in the sky and strange unexplainable shapes that have been spotted around the world for decades, the members of the panel, David Grusch, a former intelligence official, David Fravor, an ex-Navy commander and Ryan Graves, a retired Navy pilot, all attested to UFO sightings and even ‘alien vehicles’.

According to a report by The Mirror, Mr Grusch has previously claimed that the US government possessed “intact and partially intact” alien vehicles. He led an analysis of unexplained anomalous phenomena (UAPs) within a US Department of Defense agency until 2023.

There haven’t been any UFO sightings recorded in Cambridgeshire so far this year. However last year saw several people claim they had seen unexplained objects in the sky.

In 2022, there were eight UFO sightings across the county. These took place in Cambridge, Peterborough, Huntingdon and Whittlesey. Figures from the database suggest Peterborough is the UFO centre of East Anglia. There were a total of four sightings in the city – more than any other location in Cambridgeshire.
