Mysterious ‘UFO’ seen flying over Cambridge on the night of rocket launch.

A glowing object that many called a ‘UFO’ was spotted soaring through the skies over Cambridgeshire last night (September 27).

A March resident even managed to capture it on camera.

The witness posted photographs of the glowing sight in a local March Facebook group just after 10pm yesterday, adding that it had not made a sound as it moved through the sky.

As speculation increased in the comments, one person joked: “Aliens are coming”.

Another March resident, referring to the supply issues at British petrol stations wrote: “Probably looking for fuel.”

On a similar note, another added: “Aliens checking to see if we have any fuel!!”.

Other comments on the post hinted at the actual origin of the object.

One commenter said: “Yes I see that and I’m in Somerset”, while another added: “Was seen all over the country apparently, people saying it’s a rocket that NASA launched”.

Last night, HullLive reported that an object – which looks very similar to that photographed in Cambridgeshire – was spotted across Hull and East Yorkshire.

The article states: “It is thought the object is related to the United Launch Alliance’s Atlas V rocket which launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base in the US today.

“The rocket successfully carried Landsat 9 — a NASA satellite meant to help monitor Earth’s land and coastal regions — into orbit before separating and moving to a lower orbit to deploy rideshare Cubesats.”

The Mirror also reports that the ‘UFO’ was spotted over Northumberland, and confirmed that it was indeed related to the Atlas V rocket.

A Northumberland resident described spotting the object to The Mirror and said that it looked like “an angel and it was bright white.”

However, she added: “As soon as I got home I checked what it could have been and realised it was the NASA Landsat-9 satellite which had launched in California.”

The United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base at 11.12am local time (7.12pm GMT) on Monday.
