“Recently, an endearing tale emerged of a Doberman graciously adopting a newborn kitten, fostering her alongside her litter of puppies, and the internet went abuzz with this heartwarming narrative. This touching account touched the hearts of countless individuals, demonstrating that a mother’s love transcends all boundaries, irrespective of species.

Ruby, a Doberman Pinscher, resides in the upstate New York town of Geneseo with her owner Brittany Callan. Just a week after giving birth to a litter of six puppies, she warmly embraced and nurtured an abandoned newborn kitten as if she were one of her own pups.

The kitten, named ‘Rambling Rose,’ was discovered in the grass by Callan. Upon finding the helpless kitten, she immediately thought of Ruby, who had recently become a mother to her puppies. Taking the blind, little baby home, Callan hoped Ruby’s innate maternal instincts would kick in upon seeing the vulnerable kitten. Thankfully, it did. Ruby cared for Rose affectionately, licking her as if she were her biological mother.

“[Ruby] took right to her and didn’t seem to mind at all,” Callan told Daily Paws. She added, “She grew up with small animals [and learned] to be nice and just lick them and be friendly with everything… She’s just an extremely, extremely compassionate dog.”

Rose has now settled in comfortably with Ruby and her puppies. She adores her new puppy siblings immensely, and Ruby and her puppies reciprocate the affection. Ruby even carries Rose around the house in her mouth. At night, they cuddle up together and sleep, forming a delightful little family.

The puppies will soon find their new homes once they reach 10 weeks of age. Meanwhile, Gibbs, Callan’s cousin, will provide Rose a loving home when she’s fully grown.
